Over 40 years experience in the commercial and residential building trades.
Self-employed since 1975 and built my first house in 1976-1977.

The following year I commissioned an energy efficient home in Rockford, Illinois for architect Charles Barr. The home won an Architectural Institute of America award for Mr. Barr and was featured in “Better Homes and Garden” magazine.

After the Charles Barr project I changed the name of my business and focused on energy efficient housing.

From that time to the present I have been a general contractor involved in residential design, remodeling, repair, and new home construction; much of it geared towards resource conservation.

Prior to 1975 I served a two year apprenticeship with a local Janesville, WI residential contractor. In 1971 I was employed as a pattern fabricator in Beloit Wis. where I made patterns for aircraft parts and learned the operation of all types of wood working equipment.

In 2010 I was a guest on Wisconsin Public Radio promoting energy efficient housing and that same year addressed the “Green Collar Symposium” at the Madison, WI Labor Temple.

In past years I have appeared on Wisconsin Public Radio a number of times talking about “green” housing and been a guest speaker at organizations such as:

U.W. Madison, College of Engineering, Department of Engineering Professional Technology
Sierra Club, Milwaukee,
Audubon Society, Madison
Habitat For Humanity, Madison

A number of my feature articles and Op-Eds have been published in The Wisconsin State Journal, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, The Capital Times, and The Janesville Gazette. Topics include “green” housing, environmental and social issues such as pollution, world population, resource exploitation, domestic violence, etc.

Currently I am a member of the Monterey Dam Association. We are working to repair Monterey Dam and preserve the historical significance of the park. Further, sediment behind the dam is highly polluted and we advocate for responsible remediation of the toxins.

Recently, YWCA Community Service Center, Janesville, WI

As a long time feminist I believe that the epic dilemmas facing our planet can not be solved without the full and equal participation of women.
